Abu Omar al-Shishani (, also rendered as Abu Omar al-Chechen) is a Chechen-Kist islamist and jihadist and the leader of the Jaish al-Muhajireen wal-Ansar, an anti-government faction in the Syrian civil war linked to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. He is from Georgia’s Pankisi Gorge and fought in the First Chechen War and Second Chechen War against Russia. He participated in the Siege of Menagh Air Base.
