Fairy or spirit marriage is the occurance of a spirit—usually a fae, in fact—approaching a person and proposing a marriage arrangment with them on a few conditions, the most common being that they can tell no one of the true nature of the fairy spouse, usually given away by a strange limb or anatomical feature. As fae have no gender, they can choose to take the form of any person to attract another. Most take the form of humanesque females to approach male persons, leading to the term fairy wife. The reverse can and does occur. Some even whisper of their deepest secrets and fantasies being fulfilled by fairy marriages that could never happen in the community with another person.
