Old fashioned toasters would hold only flat items like bread. Then they added a drawer to some, like a small broiler. Today's toaster ovens are more like small oven/broilers. They can sometimes be used instead of heading up the whole, full-sized oven. Industrial toasters have a track. Multiple pieces follow the track around the heat source.
