When former Bonanno underboss Salvatore Vitale, became an informant he testified against and helped put away 51 organized-crime figures through his testimony as a government witness, 38 of them for murders. Bonventre was one of the defendants that Vitale testified against. He was sentenced to 9 months in prison for various crimes.
