Jones was a Starfleet enlisted person assigned to the Federation starship USS Enterprise as the gamma shift yeoman in 2265. Captain James T. Kirk would often confuse the names of Jones and Yeoman Barbara Smith, an alpha shift yeoman who signed aboard at the same time. He vowed he would one day guess their names correctly.
