The destroyer's unique clamshell-shaped frame supported powerful short-range pummels. This vessel carried more armor than other ship classes to allow it to close to short range. These vessels were most commonly used against other ships as they could breach the hulls of even the largest cruisers rapidly. A heavier version of the destroyer was also used by the Galactic Empire.
