Elections to the Grand Council are held every three years, to elect all 230 members of the overall legislature. Each member of parliament is elected from the constituency of Maddog, which is the sole sub-national division in the country. The voting system used for national elections is proportional representation. Any member of parliament or parliamentary caucus may call for early elections for any reason, and such a proposition must be supported by at least 50%+1 of the legislature, which is 116 members in total.
