The RG420 is one of only a few RG models produced with a 22-fret neck. It has the sharp-edged body style which distinguishes it from the older Roadstar body. The RG420 features a basswood body bolted to a maple neck with a 22-fret fingerboard with dot inlays. Components include dual Ibanez humbucking pickups mounted in pickup rings at the bridge and neck with coil-tap Duo Sound functionality and an Edge double locking tremolo bridge with a locking nut. The RG420 was discontinued after 1987.
