The Royal Arsenal, also known as Woolwich Arsenal, was Britain's pre-eminent weapons factory at the time of the Goon Show. Originally founded in 1545 at the direction of Henry VIII, it was given the title of Royal Arsenal in 1805. It closed in 1967, and has since been largely redeveloped for civilian use. A museum preserves some of the buildings and artifacts.
