The Forgotten Continent is the westernmost of the four main continents on the world map of Gaia in Final Fantasy IX. All of its major destinations, such as Oeilvert, Ipsen's Castle and the Wind Shrine, are inaccessible unless the player has arrived on the continent by air, as tall cliffs around the continent's perimeter prevent any beach landings. The Forgotten Continent proper is nearly devoid of intelligent life, with only a few moogles inhabiting its various ruins; however, there is a hidden city on an island of the Salvage Archipelago. Depending on the player's position on the continent, the different angles and intensity of sunlight give the impression of twilight.
