Born an ordinary dumb horse of Earth, he was originally named Strawberry, and was apparently the son of an officer's charger in the cavalry. He and his owner, Frank, lived in London, where they made a living by drawing a Hansom cab. Eventually, they were stopped by the police, and his owner tried to calm him down, while trying to get Jadis off him, only for her to call him a dog, and that Strawberry was now her Royal Charger. The newly changed Fledge flew Digory and Polly into the Western Wilds of Narnia, to the walled garden to pick a Silver Apple for Aslan, and then brought them back.
