Many of the names and incidents in Underworld were derived from the myth of Jason and the Argonauts. Orfe is an analogue of the Greek heroine Orpheus, who was one of the Argonauts; his use of the pacification gun alludes to Orpheus' ability to calm wild beasts with his music.
