In addition to the Vikings, the English, the French, the Irish, and the Holy Roman Empire appear in this scenario as minor civilizations. Aside from the normal means of collecting gold, this scenario gives you the option of ransoming captured cities, or returning them to their original owners in exchange for a one-time gold payment. These payments start at 200 gold, but can be upwards of 1000 gold for the largest cities. Be warned that if you recapture a city that you previously ransomed, the other civilizations will know that you cannot be trusted and you will no longer have the option to ransom cities.
