Ned Narkin was the potman of the Rover's from 1943 to 1944. Whilst Jack Walker was away fighting, Ned was left in the Rover's with landlady Annie and their children Billy and Joan. Annie distrusted Ned, but he was proved to be a hero; one night in August 1944, Annie heard a noise from the bar and upon walking downstairs to find out, was confronted with a burglar who held a knife to her throat. Ned jumped to defend her, but was stabbed doing so and died an honourable death.
