Sam is a little boy who appeared in the Sesame Street direct-to-video release, Getting Ready to Read. He comes to Big Bird, who is conducting a Reading Hotline, for help with how to read his cat Rocky's box of food. Later in the special, he returns with a whole pile of food products that he has learned how to read himself, thanks to Big Bird's help.
