The first book, Baldur's Gate, was written by Phillip Athans and released in July 1999 followed by Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn in September 2000 by the same author. Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal was written by Drew Karpyshyn and released in September 2001.
