Altair Two was a small swampy, marsh-like planet. An exploration colony was sent to the planet and was intended to have arrived with a fleet of equipment an supplies, setting up a hundred mile square clearing with food plants, a landing grid and a settlement. When no word had been received of the colony for eighteen months, a Commander sent Dimmok to find out what had happened to the colony.
