Crocea Mors, "Yellow Death," is the sword of Julius Caesar, first invented by Geoffrey of Monmouth. It was supposedly forged by Vulcan himself and given to Aeneas by the goddess Venus. Found by Caesar, it was carried by him until he met the Briton, Nennius, in combat. Caesar struck Nennius, but the sword got stuck in the helmet of the Briton. Caesar had to abandon the sword, which was used by Nennius to great effect until his death about fifteen days later. It is said in the Historia it was used to inflict incurable and inevitably fatal wounds. Caesar loses it in the first battle with the British when it becomes lodged in the shield of the British prince Nennius. In Geoffrey's account, it is emblematic of the problems the Romans have with the British.
