Following the end of the Mezzilenic War and the collapse of Supreme Chancellor Signet Mezzileen's government, the acting Chancellor Harza Klim signed a treaty with the breakaway Jedi Coalition. This treaty reunited the two factions and promised elections by the end of the year while in the meantime Klim headed a interim administration. With the established Core Party having become increasingly unpopular due to its ties to Mezzileen and the Rim Party having lost much support to the radical Democratic Republican Party, the election looked set to set a new direction for the Republic.
