The IT-series was model of small, spherical, floating droid that was developed on the droid-inhabited moon Uffel during the waning years of the Galactic Republic. In about 31 BBY, the droids of Uffel's Research and Development facility tasked various IT-series droids, including IT-R9, with following groups of tourists that were visiting the moon, to allow the droids to study the behavior of organic beings.
