Otomo Reiku was an up-and-coming courtier among the Imperial Families. He attempted to negotiate a peaceful end to several border skirmishes in the 12th century, but few of his negotiations turned out well. A former Maho-tsukai, who after death became a Yokai, sought Reiku's death. The damned soul had been liberated from Jigoku by the Blessed Guard and imprisoned at Yomi. The yokai tried to weaken his enemies among the shiryo by having his descendants eliminate the descendants of his enemies, and visited one of his descendants, telling Reiku was a corrupted soul who had escaped Jigoku and reincarnated as a powerful figure in Rokugan.
