The unnamed Waiter served in the restaurant where Wendy Nightingale met up with her estranged husband Roger to discuss the state of their marriage after she had left him for Ken Barlow. Roger was making pointed remarks to the effect that he was the sort of person to sort out differences with another man by hitting him on the nose and he looked at the unimpressed waiter as he did so.
