The first thing you should do when starting a new village is build your Main Building to at least level 5, and an Embassy(only required to build the Palace and to join an alliance, so you don't need an Embassy in all your villages) to level 1, thus allowing you to build a Residence or Palace. If it's your first village, you may want to build the Residence, because your first village is already your capital and if you feel the need to move your capital someplace else, you can simply build the palace in the new village instead of having to tear it down in your first village.
