In Russian folklore Zmei Gorynich is an evil dragon-like creature with three (sometimes 6 or 9) heads that spits fire. The “classic” Zmei (He-Snake) Gorynich is most closely resembled by NM Hydra. The well known bylina (free verse heroic poetry) “Story About Dobrynya Nikitich and Zmei Gorynych” describes the struggle between Dobrynya (one of the three great bogatyr) and Gorynych that resulted in ultimate demise of Zmei.
