Golden Wyverns were released on January 23, 2012, alongside the Royal Blue Dragons to celebrate the Chinese New Year and also the beginning of the "Year of the Dragon". Before there were any adults, forum users referred to Golden Wyverns as "shimmers"; this nickname has since been discontinued due to causing confusion with Shimmer-scale Dragons. Golden Wyvern eggs are sometimes confused with those of the gold prize dragons or Gold Dragons. When sorting by "Breed", Golden Wyverns sort as "Gwyvern" on a user's scroll.
