The House of Saif, also known as al-Saif or the Sword Tribe, is a Sarquil noble house which has ruled over the city of Vanna and all the Sarquil tribes in the Sultanate of Karaganda for many decades. The head of the family has traditionally been a woman who holds the title of Sultana, and the family has always had personal slave bodyguards and soldiers who are referred to as the Black Guard. Khalid al-Saif is the first male head of the family in its history as all previous rulers have been women until he broke the tradition by taking over the throne of Vanna from his aunt Adela al-Saif in a coup.
