Big Moose Lake, in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State, is a relatively large body of water. Three miles long and one mile wide, it covers a total of 1265 acres, and reaches 70 feet at its deepest point. It is the source of the Moose Rivers, all of which flow into the Great Lakes. Big Moose Lake takes its name from the nearby settlement of Big Moose, which was founded by hunters. Today, the lake is a well-known, if remote, tourist spot; each year, many visitors head to Big Moose Lake for sailing, rowing, and other water sports. The lake is also famously haunted.
