The Eurovision Song Contest 1972 was the 17th edition held on 25 March 1972. Monaco was unable to host the contest due to the inability to meet the demands of the EBU and turned to the BBC for help. There were rumours afterwards that the country was too poor to host. It was held at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh, Scotland and presented by actress Moira Shearer. Séverine, the previous year's winning artist, was in attendance.
