Their attacks freaking cause Petrification. Their REGULAR attacks! To face a group of them in the Secret Cave, you better have Anti- Petrification equipped. You'll be able to handle the odd one that will appear in the Sewers, you don't need to worry as much. Make absolutely sure to take them out at the very start of the fight, and you'll be good.
