Bogu, which meaned “equipment to protect,” was the Rokugani practice armor specifically for use in the dojo. It consisted of a bamboo chest protector, a bamboo mask lined with padded silk, shoulder protectors of flat wooden planks cushioned with cloth, and combination forearm-and-wrist bamboo guards. Over these armor pieces the student wore a thick padded kimono.
