Hilaire Blanchard was elected to Parliament in February 3349. While in Parliament, she worked to reform the Civil Service. In 3363, Blanchard contested the Deputy Leadership of the Liberal Party and was defeated by three votes. Undeterred, Blanchard continued her work in Parliament, and was able to take the leadership in 3379.
