The Vanguard probot was a second-degree probe droid designed and manufactured by Arakyd Industries during the final decades of the Old Republic. It was made to assist deep-space scouts and explorers in mapping out new hyperspace routes. The use of Vanguard droids ensured that the organic scouting crew did not have to perform jumps into unknown territory.
