[Source] The Chempat "Defender" deflector shield generator, also known as the "Defender" Deflector Screen Projector, was the shield generator/projector system used on the X-wing starfighter. It was capable of generating both ray and particle shields. Thanks to this unit, the X-wing was able to withstand greater amounts of punishment than Imperial fighters of the same era. This type of shielding was later used on the Imperial Guard TIE Interceptor.
