Jeff Palms has been cursed with luck, at least that's the way he puts it. Not so lucky, however, are the poor saps that get caught up in disasters that surround him. The worst hurricane to hit the Carolina's in 15 years occurred while he was in Recruit Training at Camp Geiger. Two of his fellow recruits were killed during the storm. While attending SOI East, a hand grenade malfunction killed one of his instructors and wounded two of his classmates. The instructor was talking to Palms when the grenade detonated, yet Palms only received slight cuts and bruises.
