The 2001 The Winston was a Winston Cup (now Nextel Cup) All-Star event held at Lowe's Motor Speedway on May 19, 2001. Jeff Gordon, the eventual season champ, crashed on the first lap and appeared to have his chances of winning over. But because NASCAR took the blame for having a wet track, Gordon's team was given a chance to take out a backup car during a rain delay.
