Batos were large animals found on Bajor that were often kept in herds. Batos were kept by the owners of the house that Opaka Sulan lived in the 2340s. By that decade, there were none there or in the surrounding area. Kai Arin wondered why this was when he visited Opaka and she theorized it was because no one could afford to feed them.
