The task force was formed in 16 ABY to patrol parts of the New Republic to fight pirates. Over time, ships have been transferred in and out, and the task force has been restructured over time. It was designed to be a highly mobile force, small in number, but high in power and punch, in order to be able to effectively chase pirates and not be tied down by larger ships. Since the task force was formed, Captain Austin Kislum has been in charge.
