He played junior hockey for the Edmonton Athletic Club from 1935 to 1939 and then turned pro in 1939-40 with the Providence Reds. Carse split the next four seasons between the Chicago Black Hawks and the minor pros. He was in the Canadian military for two years (1943 to 1945) and played for the senior Calgary Currie Army team in 1943-44. After World War II Carse played for his hometown senior Edmonton Flyers in 1945-46 and then joined the Cleveland Barons the following season. The Montreal Canadiens called him up for 22 games in 1947-48 when he scored 3 goals and 3 assists.
