Ed Stoltz was a detective in the St. Louis Police Department. After James Frampton began using magic to supplement his police work, he surpassed Ed Stoltz as lead detective. Jealous, Stoltz wanted regain his position as lead detective, and was planning to use the falsified testimony of Phillippe LeChat in his case to arrest James as a renegade cop.
