Around thirty days after Emergence Day, Grachev was part of the effort to defend the city of Halvo Bay from a huge Locust assault. Grachev was killed by a stray bullet that ricocheted during a battle in the Seahorse Hills. Grachev's COG Tag was later recovered by Pvt.Garron Paduk of Kilo Squad.
