Developed by tri-Ace, it was published by Square Enix for the PlayStation 2 console in Japan on 2003, shortly before the Square-Enix merger. It was re-released in Japan on 2004 as Star Ocean: Till the End of Time Director's Cut, which contained content similar to the English version.
