MINIX is a small operating system that is very similar to UNIX. MINIX was written for educational purposes by Prof. Andrew S. Tanenbaum of Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, and was the inspiration for Linus Torvalds to create Linux. MacMinix is the 68k Macintosh version of MINIX.
