Vault D is the fourth of an unspecified number of basement or sub-basement facilities of the Playground. It was used to detain former Agent Ward whilst Coulson and Skye in particular attempted to extract intelligence. Long before it ad served a similar purpose for Agent Carter with regard to Daniel Whitehall, or rather Werner Rheinhardt, as he was known at the time.
