Matsu Atsuko was married to Tsuruchi Kenji, as a part of improving Tsuruchi-Matsu relations. As was customary, he took the Matsu name, but requested from his wife that their first child would take his name, Kenji. It was quite a surprise for him when their first child was a girl. and they bore a daughter, Matsu Kenji and a son, Matsu Aritomo.
