Papelford was the librarian at Varrock Palace and archivist for the Society of the Owl. Reldo is his apprentice. He often states that Reldo is an excellent apprentice and capable of taking over for him when he is no longer archivist. In reality, however, he thought him incompetent and wished to kill him. During Return to Canifis, he refuses to help Reldo investigate the disappearances, even going as far as refusing to let Reldo use materials from his private store.
