[[File:.jpg|240px|right]] Since his first full participation in 2004, Carl Edwards of the Ford works team Roush Fenway Racing, has grown to become their ace driver. Edwards, brought up by the president of the team Jack Roush, has grown significantly to meet their expectations. In the 2005 season, he placed 3rd in the premier Nextel cup just in his second year of entry. He was continually in the top group vying for the title every year afterwards, and in 2008 took away 9 victories, pressuring champion Jimmie Johnson until the very last race.
