The story is told from the perspective of Leonora Digiorno. On May of 2157, Digiorno, a student, returns home to Oklahoma after a vacation on Ceres, where she has just met the love of her life, pilot Melissa Madden, prior to her coming to the Enterprise (NX-01). Digiorno's father initially expresses disappointment in his daughter's lesbian life choices, but comes around after being scolded by his wife.
