The gun cutter is an old medium-sized wide-bodied gunship design capable of intra-system travel. Its guns fire hypervelocity slugs. Slower than a battlecruiser, it was rendered obsolete by the development of the Wraith fighter. Its use continued until at least 2500 due to its long operational range.
