The Mongol Empire was created by Genghis Khan in 1206. It had reached the borders of the Abbasid Caliphate before he died, taking over the Seljuqs by 1220. Despite watching the Seljuqs fight a pointless campaign, the current Caliph of the time, Al-Nasir refused Mongol requests of tribute, starting the Mongol Invasion of Baghdad.
