A police officer (also known as a cop, a policeman or policewoman) is an employee of a police force. Officers are responsible for maintaining public order, apprehending criminals, and preventing and detecting crimes. Police officers are sworn to an oath of integrity, and are granted the power to arrest suspects of a crime, and imprison them.
